The Waking Forest (Review)

The Waking Forest

The Waking Forest by Alyssa Wees

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I definitely wanted to like this book. The cover was very interesting, and the title, even the description. But it just sort of fell flat for me. It took me much too long to finish this book, and I dreaded picking it up. The descriptions were often times too detailed and lengthy, and I’d forget the initial thing they were trying to describe since there are a ton of ‘like this’ visuals. Wasn’t really fond of the characters either, I got bored with Rhea’s visions, and I disliked the Witch and her bone or gory descriptions.

Definitely a book I ended up being disappointed in, and I won’t be recommending it to others. I actually plan on just donating this to a library if they’ll take it, and I’m glad I only spent under $5 for a book outlet copy. I only wish I could get the time back.

I will note one detail I won’t forget that I did like, which is that the sphinxes are briefly mentioned in here enjoying ‘dad jokes’ and I find that amusing.

Added for blog version, didn’t write my own synopsis with this review because I didn’t want to spend any more time on this particular book. Goodreads provides a good synopsis though if you are interested.
