A SAHM’s Tips and Tricks

I’m not at all a professional when it comes to giving advice, and honestly I don’t have a real format for this post, but I’ve come across some things that our family has found helpful or interesting, and thought I’d share.

Around the house advice
Ever get sick of dryer sheets getting stuck to every piece of clothing, or end up finding them all over the house despite your best efforts to contain them? I was, and so was my husband. We found something better, wool dryer balls! They are reusable, and help dry clothes faster (they really do!) I don’t think we’ll ever be going back to dryer sheets again.

As for everyday cleaners, instead of clorox wipes or lysol, we’ve moved onto Bioesque Botanical Disinfectant Spray, a more natural solution to all the cleaning we need to do around the house. We also use white distilled vinegar for cleaning, killing weeds, and preventing bugs.

Recipes
Here are a few recipes we’ve made as of recent and found to be easy to make and delicious!
Beef and Cheddar Casserole, Aberdeen Beef Pie, Cheesy Meatball Sliders, and Broccoli and Rice Casserole. All of these were relatively easy to make, and fed us for a couple days (two adults, one toddler). I’ll also leave here three of our favorites that we’ve been making for a few years now: Mississippi Roast, Kent Rollin’s Breakfast Casserole , and Hodge Podge soup. My husband also found a great Sour Milk Bread recipe and it is delicious (although we used non-sour milk). We use this bread as our primary sandwich bread, and when we lack bread flour we just use all purpose and substitute in 2 tablespoons of vital wheat gluten in place of some all purpose. I also tried this wonderfully simple Banana Bread recipe, sans the chocolate chips though (didn’t have any). I really enjoyed this one because it didn’t require any special ingredients like sour cream or buttermilk, just the stuff we already had in the kitchen.

On Being Motivated
Now I’m sure not many people will like this advice, but I have always found it to be true. Waiting around to be motivated to do something simply wastes time, and achieves nothing. Motivation follows action. This is how I manage my work and art tasks. If I waited around to ‘be in the mood’ to do something, nothing would get done. Sometimes you have to kick procrastination in the rump and just get up and start on something. I see too many posts of people saying they’re just not motivated, then the same people complaining that things aren’t getting better. It is all up to you, if you choose to do nothing, don’t expect something.

On Following the Path
This one is the most important advice I have. Trust in God, the Lord loves His children and is always watching over them. I take everything to God that I can, and I honestly could be better at remembering to do so. When the day gets rough, or things look bleak, I sit and speak with God. I ask Him for patience, guidance, and for mercy. For His forgiveness when I stray from the path and cater to my own selfish desires. The flesh complains for the flesh is selfish, we must remember that a mouth full of praise has no room for complaints. I should be thankful for my work, and that I am able to do it. Thankful for the responsibilities God has blessed me with, for my life is so much better with them than without. If you are unsure of where to go, what to do, or you need someone so talk to, go to God. He’s always there, it is just up to you to listen.
